AF-EMDR:

Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Attachment-focused EMDR is a trauma treatment approach that infuses traditional EMDR with the principles of attachment theory. AF-EMDR helps build new resources for healing, growing, and connecting with others while processing trauma.

In EMDR, we will utilize a technique called bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or gentle vibrations) to safely revisit the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs associated with traumatic memories. Bilateral stimulation seems to encourage rapid processing in the brain, allowing the trauma to be treated more effectively.

BLS is believed to help the left and right sides of your brain communicate more efficiently, similar to what happens during REM sleep.

One of the most critical aspects of attachment-focused EMDR is the development of a strong, reparative therapeutic relationship.
